About The Pond Manual
The Pond Manual exists for one specific person: the homeowner who bought a house, got a pond in the bargain, and now stands in the backyard wondering what they’re supposed to do with it.
We’re not koi hobbyists. We’re not a pond supply store with a blog. We’re an independent publisher writing research-based guides for accidental pond owners — the people who need practical answers about pumps, green water, filters, and running costs, not forum arguments about bottom drains.
What we do
- Explain pond equipment the way a good neighbor would — what it does, how to size it, what it costs to run, and what goes wrong.
- Build tools that chain the math together, like the Pond System Sizer, which takes you from pond dimensions to pump size to UV wattage to monthly cost in one sequence.
- Tell you what can wait. Inherited ponds generate a lot of anxiety and a lot of unnecessary spending. Half our job is talking you out of draining the pond and buying chemicals on day one.
What we don’t do
- No fake authors. You won’t find a “meet our team” page with stock-photo experts and invented biographies. This site is written and maintained by its publisher; we don’t invent personas to manufacture authority.
- No fabricated testing. We don’t claim to have bought, installed, or tested products we haven’t. Our recommendations come from published manufacturer specifications, established pond-keeping references, and community knowledge — labeled as such. (See our editorial methodology.)
- No pretending. Where we don’t have a verified affiliate relationship with a brand, we say so plainly and link to plain retail pages. Where a number is an estimate, we call it an estimate.
How the site makes money
Right now, it doesn’t — product links are plain links to retailers. If we join affiliate programs in the future, those links will be clearly labeled and disclosed, per our affiliate disclosure. Our content standards don’t change either way: we’d rather recommend the right pump from a store that pays us nothing than the wrong pump from one that does.
